A new Neo-Geo console soon?

The project is still very mysterious, but SNK has posted a mysterious tweet recently, showing "something" under a sheet stamped Neo Geo.
And a Japanese message saying  "a new game console compiling the popular titles of the Neo-Geo will make its appearance, to express our gratitude to all our fans ".😍

Art of Fighting 3, not the best series, but some of the best pixel art and animations in the entire Neo-Geo collection!

Also mentioned in the message are a few games like Metal Slug, The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and Samurai Showdown, some of the most popular SNK and Neo Geo licenses!
I really hope they included the vast majority of their games, because I'm tired of seeing my favorite consoles re-released with only a few preinstalled games.
The only one I respect is the Sega Megadrive "Flashback", because at least, we can also use our own old cartridges, in addition to the preinstalled games.

The legendary NEO-GEO, which was available to rich people only back in the early 90s! (before the Neo-Geo CD.) Note how the arcade stick is almost as big as the console itself.😅

As a reminder, the Neo Geo AES(see above) was originally released in 1990 and was MUCH more powerful than the Megadrive or Super Nintendo!
More memory, a better sound chip, a wider color palette, a more powerful video processor, allowing more sprites at the same time and a faster processor(the same 68000 that the Genesis had!).
(In France, I remember we called it the "Rolls-Royce of consoles"😎... I only played it a few times at a friend's house...)

Too bad the giant cartridges were sold at a delusional price (their best games were often sold around $300(or euros)). 😳
The CD versions are much more affordable though.

On a side note, I have to remind you that in 2012, a company named "Tommo" made the Neo Geo X, looking like a hybrid between a portable and a regular Neo Geo AES, and it included only 20 preinstalled games. (what did I tell you? Sigh...)
The product was considered wobbly in general, and has not really convinced. 

So I guess it's good news that this time, it's the "real" SNK which is in charge.

 

Fatal Fury Special! Gee, I named all of the games in these screenshots without having to look it up. That shows how I'm a SNK fangirl! lol😄 (and by the way, yeah I chose screenshots using scanlines on purpose. Don't you think it looks better this way?)

By the way, I mentioned in a previous post how incredible it was to see dedicated fans still making games for the Dreamcast, another very much loved console of the past, which focused a lot on Arcade games.
But it's the same for the NEO-GEO!

Many old Neo-Geo games have been ported to PC and you can find them on GOG.

Note: this is the Unlimited Match version of King of Fighters 2002 on PC, with HD(not 3D!) backgrounds. This was NEVER on Neo-Geo. And yes, I HIGHLY recommend you to try this game NOW. lol

Ok now, after writing this article, I have to go play Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, my favorite beat'em up of all time.(get it on GOG)
